Welcome to the Unthinkable Resource Hub

for climate distress and other polycrisis problems

Is your heart heavy from living year-on-year in “unprecedented times”? Is the degradation of our planetary life support systems getting you down? Does the unnecessary dysfunction and injustice make you boil inside? Do you ever feel really alone with the heaviness of it all, noticing how it can be hard to talk about with others in a way that brings connection? We’ve been there, and have studied the nature and prevalence of eco-distress in society, which is growing. If supported, it comes bearing gifts: it can connect us with what we love most about being alive, help us make meaning, and step into a life of greater purpose to protect that which we can.

Learning how to work with the distress can make us stronger, more resilient, and more flexible human beings. Fortunately, a plethora of resources have emerged in recent years to help people do this skillfully. Below you’ll find a growing repository of the most celebrated climate- and eco-distress resources that emphasize coping, acting, and psycho-social-spiritual resilience strategies, alongside community support.

CLIMATE
CONVERSATIONS

Though an existential loneliness often accompanies eco-distress, millions of people are feeling this. The problem is, there are no social norms for talking about it, so a validating setting must be sought out. Finding the right place to do that can be healing, transformative, and motivating.

CLIMATE-AWARE THERAPY

Mental health professionals who have studied how climate change impacts mental health, alongside ways to treat those affected, are growing in number. If your symptoms of distress are disrupting your ability to concentrate, sleep, are impacting your relationships or otherwise interfering with day-to-day life, it might be time to contact one.

WORKSHOPS, COURSES & GUIDES

A collection of classes, lesson plans, field guides and other learning journeys that offer psychoeducation on the climate-mental health connection and foster viable pathways towards active hope and courage.
